EMT Basic Course 

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) consists of a team of healthcare professionals who, in each area or jurisdiction, are responsible for providing pre-hospital emergency care and transportation to the sick and injured.  Each Emergency Medical Service is part of a local or regional EMS system that provide the many varied pre-hospital and hospital components require for the delivery of emergency medical care.

The Emergency Medical Technician course is the foundation on which additional knowledge and skills are built. The EMT-Basic course is a starting point for any individual who is looking for a career as an EMT-Paramedic.  The EMT-Basic course is approximately 180 hours and includes the essential knowledge and skills required to provide emergency medical care in the field.

Skills learned include:

  • Use of the Automated Defibrillator

  • Airway adjuncts

  • Assisting with medications

  • vital signs

  • splinting and bandaging

  • Injury assessment

Course Director

Walter Bedtke, NREMT-P.

Faculty:

All assisting faculty has at least three years experience in the field.

Course Dates:

Classes are currently in session. The next class will begin December 15, 2008.

Times:

Monday-Wednesday-Thursday 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Course Entry Requirements

  • Verification of a high school diploma ore equivalent.

  • Proof of immunization against communicable diseases

  • Valid CPR card

  • 18 years of age

Course Completion Requirements

  • Demonstrate skill proficiency

Additional Details

  • Fee for the course is $550.00 which includes state testing fees.

  • The course is in conjunction with Moraine Valley Community college and all students will receive 6 credit hours

  • Students will also do the required ride-along time with Trace Ambulance.

  • Classes are held at the Trace Ambulance Facility in Tinley Park

  • One half tuition is due the first night of class, second half due before mid term.

  • Class size is limited to the first 25 applications, so apply early.

  • Commitment to obtain the required knowledge and skills.

  • Compassion to help those who are injured or acutely ill.

Once you have successfully passed the EMT Basic course, you will be entitled to take the Illinois Dept of Public Health state test.

To register for the course, complete the registration form and fax or deliver it to Trace Ambulance.
